Meet our Cornets

Principal Cornet - David Raplh

Dave started playing trumpet at the age of 11, when his first trumpet cost £22 brand new! He played with West Bromwich brass band and tried several different instruments and ended up on Bb bass. Several years later and over 30 bands with a few breaks in-between use to work commitments, Dave decided a cornet would be much easier to carry and has been back playing continually for the past 9 years.

Solo cornet - Tony Goddard

Tony has been playing a brass instrument since being handed a trumpet during his first week at secondary school. Other than a 15 year break to concentrate on career and family, he has been playing ever since. His comeback in 1986 was on the Bb bass but he returned to cornet in 1998. Throughout this time he played only in wind bands except for a short spell with a Pipe Band when living in Wales! He 'discovered' brass bands in 2005 whilst living in Scotland and played with Tayport Instrumental Band. Tony moved to Newark in 2007 and joined Newark Town Band shortly after.

REPIANO Cornet 2 - Alice lee

Alice joined Newark Town Band in 2015; she has been playing since she was six years old and in that time she's played every instrument in the band, aside from trombone! Currently, Alice plays flugelhorn with her University Brass Band and euphonium with their Concert Band. In Newark Town Band, Alice plays all over but played Repiano cornet for the March Area contest!

Repiano cornet 3 - Chloe Pearson

Chloe has been playing brass for around 9 years, beginning with the trumpet when she was 7 years old. She joined Newark Town Band in 2014 on trumpet before moving onto playing cornet. Chloe enjoys a variety of music styles and being part of the band family.

2nd cornet 1 - GEOFF WICKER

Geoff has been involved in Brass Bands since an early age playing Tenor Horn for Strood Mission Silver Band in Kent. On moving to Canterbury he joined Faversham Mission Brass on Flugel. After a break in banding, a further move brought Geoff to Newark where he plays 2nd cornet for Newark Town Band. Geoff also shares his music as part of Newark Evangelical Church Worship Group on a Sunday.

2nd CORNET 2 - Steve Korcz

Steve picked up the cornet when his eldest son started having lessons at school, both being taught by the highly accomplished, but ever so patient, Chris Jeans (then also playing trombone with Black Dyke). Twenty five years later, Steve is still playing with the same enthusiasm from those early days and, some would say, much the same ability.

3rd cornet - Amanda Wells
